18th Jul 2024 - The quality and visual appeal of transport hubs and interchanges, including railway stations, bus stations and tram stops, is crucially important in encouraging greater use and maximising customer satisfaction. Both are key to facilitating increased use of public transport across the country, but especially in major urban areas, where switching more people away from cars can help to improve local environmental conditions by lowering levels of road congestion, noise and air pollution.
Designer Margaret McCurry started with steel side frames that recall platform swings. Her inspiration for the seating was a picket fence around a Victorian era cottage and reflections of forms in the outdoor environments. In the Lakeside Seat, as in her architecture, the linkage is artfully transformed so, as she puts it, "the history and memory are there, but they're jogged a bit."
