Friarage Hospital Project Details
Project Name: Friarage Hospital
Client: South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Completion Date: October 2018
Products Used: Wellspring Tables, Wellspring Chairs, Wellspring Benches, Big Harris Benches
Friarage Hospital in North Yorkshire completed the construction of its flagship £10m cancer centre. It was supported and funded by the South Tees Hospital Trust, Yorkshire philanthropist Sir Robert Ogden, and generous donations from the local community.
The Sir Robert Ogden Centre has been specifically designed to support cancer patients during treatment with a spacious chemotherapy lounge, a Macmillan information centre, and therapy, consultation and treatment rooms. Built around a central garden as a request by patients to be able to see the sky and green trees.
Artform were asked to supply the Wellspring range of furniture from their collection and the free standing chairs can be easily moved, whilst offering robustness when frequently handled. The elegant teak furniture has subtle features to make sitting and rising easier and more comfortable and was designed specifically with healthcare facilities in mind.
Big Harris Benches were also chosen for this project which provided fixed seating that complemented the external landscaping.
Artform worked closely with the design team on site and ensured every detail was dealt with, including shipping, offloading & technical support as part of their liaison with the client.
The outdoor space is now a relaxing place for patients and visitors to use and supporting improvements to health and wellbeing.
Sir Robert himself commented "I am delighted that the people of North Yorkshire now have a modern cancer treatment centre for the future. My wife and I are proud to have been closely involved with the design and funding of the project, and I am certain that the Friarage Centre will prove to be as successful as the two centres that I funded earlier with Macmillan at St James’s Hospital Leeds and Harrogate District Hospital."
